A Wishing Place is a place where children who are faced with the limitations of life-threatening illness can dream and hope and celebrate and believe once again that wishes can indeed come true. A Wishing Place enhances the way we ask a child to imagine a wish, the way we present many of our wishes, and the way we network and plan activities for the families we serve. Our new home provides spaces for the presentation of a wish, for making a wish, for volunteer training, for family gatherings, and office and conference space. In addition, we have provided a family respite suite so that families traveling here from outlying areas will have somewhere to rest and relax away from the hospital environment yet close enough to be there if needed.

Valentiner Crane Brunjes Onyon, pro bono architects for this project, designed a 12,500 square foot building, allowing space for future expansion on the garden level. The building combines traditional residential architectural features with an element of fantasy. The space is divided roughly into three zones containing public space, intimate space, and office space, with each zone serving several functions.
