Six Wish Stories Volunteers can choose to allocate their
ducky sales to one of the following wishes:
- Gage's
wish to meet Spiderman (Age 4, single ventricle heart defect)
At four-years-old,
Gage is a superhero in a child's body. Gage struggles with a heart condition in
which one of his heart chambers isn't fully developed. But this doesn't stop him
from being a superhero. When he's not saving his baby brother from being left
behind, Gage is busy showing other kids he can keep up through running and playing
video games. For his wish, Gage has chosen to meet his favorite superhero, Spiderman.
He hopes to get a lesson in web throwing and saving people. His
mom is excited because he gets to meet his hero at such a young age, and Gage
is excited to tell everyone how cool it was for him to meet Spiderman. With a
contagious laugh, and a willingness to talk about his single ventricle heart condition
with everyone, Gage has a determination to be happy and active in life. - Tatiana's
wish for a playset (Age 4, Hurler's Syndrome)
Four-year-old Tatiana is
extremely independent. In any case when help is offered to her, she boldly declines
and says, "I do it!" It excites the young girl to accomplish things
on her own, especially physically. She suffers from Hurler's Syndrome, which causes
the displacement of her hips and the hyperextension of her knees. This challenges
her when physically playing with her family - one of her favorite things to do.
However, this doesn't stop her. Tatiana is not a quitter - she never gives up.
She battles through her challenges and plays every single day. For this reason,
Tatiana wishes for a playset. Tatiana's
older sister passed away from the same condition, so her family knows of the importance
of making memories. They all look forward to playing on the playset together without
the stress of traveling somewhere. Tatiana has a smile that "could stop a
freight train", and millions of smiles are sure to come from the granting
of this wish. - Tyson's
wish to meet the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Age 17, nerve tumor)
Seventeen-year-old
Tyson loves typical teenager things - Xbox 360, hanging out, and especially girls!
But more than anything, Tyson loves football. Although he cannot play, that does
not stop his involvement in his favorite sport. For the past two seasons he served
as the team manager for the Skyview High School team. He has loved football since
he can remember. His infatuation with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers began at the age
of six when no one else liked them. They remained his favorite team and he was
completely ecstatic when they beat Oakland in the Super Bowl in 2003. When asked
what he wanted to wish for he didn't think twice before responding that he wants
to meet the Buccaneers team.Tyson
has a great passion for life; his motto is "never give up" as he struggles
with the effects of a nerve tumor. He is a tenderhearted and loving kid who would
do anything for anyone. Although there has been a lot of negative in his life,
Tyson has a sense of humor about everything and keeps a positive attitude. This
strengthens his close family. They are thrilled to see this dream come true for
such an amazing kid. - Myshayla's
wish to have a horse (Age 7, Leukemia)
Myshayla is a seven-year-old girl
who suffers from Leukemia. She spends most of her time either at the hospital
or in her home too tired to play. Myshayla is not a girly-girl and she misses
playing sports, especially basketball and riding her bike, all of which have become
difficult since her illness. Her father is Navajo and since her diagnosis she
has made a special effort to improve her knowledge of her culture by learning
the Navajo language and the traditional Navajo dances. She can even sing a song
about a dog in the Navajo language. Myshayla
loves animals. When she has enough energy she loves playing with her two cats
and dog. Yet the animals she loves most are horses! Her mom describes her as being
"obsessed with horses." Myshayla has wanted a horse for as long as she
can remember. It will be a dream come true for her to receive her long-desired
horse as her wish. Her mom is delighted that her wish will finally be granted
and hopes that the horse will give Myshayla a much needed positive drive to keep
her battling for life. - Orion's
wish to go to Sea World (Age 7, single ventricle heart defect)
Orion may
not have the left side of his heart, but it still has more than enough room for
family, friends, and life. When the left side of his heart didn't develop in the
womb, surgery became necessary. During one of these surgeries a stroke caused
a delay in the left side of his body. Although this slows him down it certainly
doesn't stop 7-year-old Orion. With
a quick sense of humor, and a "bootie dance" that makes even serious
people laugh, Orion often looks out for others before himself, and always gives
away more than he receives. Because of his special heart, Orion truly is something
unique. His mom describes him as a smart boy who loves to sing and draw. Orion
loves to visit new places. It is no surprise that his wish is to visit Sea World
in California, where he can make some of the same memories his mother had in her
childhood. He's also excited to spend some time with his best friend; his sister.
