Step One: Explore the possibilities – contact us When you contact us, you’ll get yourself on the right path to becoming a volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Utah. Take a moment to review the expected traits of every Make-AWish Foundation of Utah volunteer...we call it M.A.G.I.C....and think about how you fit the bill. Also consider how you want to be involved with the Foundation. A tool to help you explore a possible volunteer position is our "What is the best volunteer fit for you" form. Once you have decided that the Foundation’s volunteer program is a match for you and sounds fun, please contact the Manager of Volunteer Services, at (801) 262-WISH (9474), ext. 116. cellingson@makeawishutah.org
	Step Two: Complete your application Now it’s time to complete our volunteer application and send it to our office. A copy of our volunteer application can be downloaded from our web site. Follow the volunteer links to find the location of our application. You may also have a copy sent to you by mail. We begin processing your application as soon as we receive it. Please include your completed "What is the best volunteer fit for you" form. Applications should be returned to the Make-A-Wish office no later than three weeks prior to our next volunteer orientation. However, although applications will be processed as they come in, you may have to wait for later training dates.
	Step Three: We run a background check After we’ve received your application in our office, we will run a background check and follow up with the three references you provided us with your application. Please make sure your reference information is complete. This helps us move your application along quickly.
	Step Four: Attend an interview After we complete a successful background and reference check from your application, you’ll be invited to interview with our volunteer services manager in person or by telephone to finish the application process. During the interview, we will gain a better understanding of your skills, abilities, and desires. We’ll also talk about the available volunteer positions and together we’ll identify a volunteer position appropriate for you and the foundation’s needs.
	Step Five: Join our team Upon approval, you will be invited to attend the next possible new volunteer orientation and position training session. This day-long volunteer training is designed to provide you with a firm foundation for your Make-A-Wish work. The morning session introduces you more fully to the Foundation and the volunteer role. The afternoon session is specific to your volunteer position to help you get off to a good start. New volunteer orientation and training sessions are held four times each year, with specific volunteer position training sessions held as needed.
	Step Six: Make magic happen Magic happens when people come together to make dreams come true. As you begin your volunteer work, you’ll find that your on-the-job experience will truly help you share the Power of a Wish®. Additionally, there are specific in-service sessions and continuing education opportunities for your volunteer position, to help keep you current and enrich your overall experience with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Utah.
